Introduction of Pickleball
Pickleball was originating in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum created it to entertain their families, naming it after Pritchard’s dog, Pickles. It grew through grassroots efforts, with formal rules established in the 1970s, and now boasts millions of players worldwide. Pickleball’s recent surge stems from its accessibility, social appeal, and low physical barrier. Combining tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is easy, playable by all ages, and requires minimal equipment and space, making it ideal for community centres and backyards. Its fast-paced, inclusive nature fosters fun and connection, boosted by celebrity endorsements and social media.
